Contributions of Children’s Hospital Ricardo Gutiérrez to Pediatric Cardiac Surgery

La creación del Servicio de Cirugía Cardiovascularen donde se hallaba un jardín del Hospital de Niños,realizado junto con el Dr. Eduardo Galíndez hace másde 50 años, permitió la apertura de la Escuela CardiovascularPediátrica Argentina, la que se afianzó luegode la iniciación de la residencia en 1972. El primerresidente fue el Dr. Andrés Schlichter, con quien se conformóun sólido equipo durante más de 42 años. Desdeentonces se han realizado aportes con reconocimientointernacional, muchos de los cuales fueron efectuadosen el Hospital de Niños y otros en la Clínica Bazterrica.Se narran aquí en orden cronológico, de modo quepermitan evidenciar la evolución de las ideas.

The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery was createdby Dr. Eduardo Galíndez more than 50 years agoin the former children’s hospital garden. It was thestarting point for the opening of the Argentine PediatricCardiovascular School, which strengthened afterthe beginning of the residency program, in 1972. Thefirst resident was Dr. Andrés Schlichter, who becamepart of a solid team of professionals for more than 42years. Since then, internationally recognized contributionshave been made at the Children’s Hospitaland Clínica Bazterrica. Those contributions will bepresented here in chronological order, so as to appreciatehow ideas were developed.
